Back to Design Eye

Make your first reference.

Download the package for your computer. Each ZIP includes the app, Chrome extension, Figma companion and the design-notes skill. These are private beta builds.

On Mac

  1. Unzip Design Eye Mac.zip and move Design Eye.app to Applications. Requires macOS 13 or later; Apple Silicon and Intel are included.
  2. If macOS blocks the app because its developer cannot be verified, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, find the blocked Design Eye message and choose Open Anyway. Confirm Open. Managed Macs may restrict this option; don’t disable Gatekeeper.
  3. Open Design Eye and follow the walkthrough. Paste or import an image first. Screen capture uses Control + Option + Space and requires Screen Recording permission.

This build is ad-hoc signed and has not been notarized by Apple.

On Windows

  1. Extract the entire Design Eye Windows.zip into a permanent folder. Don’t run it from the ZIP preview.
  2. Open App → Design Eye.exe. Keep its DLLs and resources together. Windows 10/11 x64 Intel/AMD is supported; Windows on ARM is not validated.
  3. This is an unsigned portable beta. If Windows or your organisation blocks it, follow its policies. Don’t turn off Windows security.
  4. Follow the walkthrough, then add or paste an image. Ctrl + Alt + Space opens area capture; drag to select and press Escape to cancel.

Bring Chrome into your workflow

  1. Keep the Chrome Extension folder in a permanent location.
  2. Open chrome://extensions, enable Developer mode and choose Load unpacked. Select the Chrome Extension folder from your package. The Web Store listing is not published yet.
  3. In Design Eye, go to Settings → Connections → Capture from Chrome and copy your Chrome pairing code.
  4. Open the extension, paste the code and select Connect. Keep Design Eye running.
  5. Right-click an image → Annotate in Design Eye. On sites with their own menu, choose Copy PNG, then open the extension → Annotate clipboard. If an image download is blocked, try Annotate visible page.

A large capture may offer to resize a copy. The original stays unchanged. If an editor is already open, save or close it, then choose Retry capture in the extension.

Connect Figma, if you want to

  1. In Design Eye, open Settings → Connections. Link your existing Figma design file or create one, then copy its Figma pairing code.
  2. In Figma desktop, go to Plugins → Development → Import from manifest and choose Figma Companion/manifest.json from the package. Keep that folder in a permanent location.
  3. Open the linked file, run Design Eye Companion, paste the code, confirm the file/page and connect. Keep the companion open for sync.
  4. Edit linked observations in either app. Review conflicting changes through Sync to Figma in Design Eye. Native Figma annotations depend on your plan, seat and editing permissions.

Pending changes stay queued when disconnected. Moving a reference to Trash in Design Eye leaves its image in Figma. Some simultaneous edits to identical Figma annotations may need review.

Help your agents understand your preferences

Your observations update taste.md automatically using local code. The included Design Eye Skill folder and Skill setup guide explain how to install the skill for a compatible AI agent and point it at your own notes.

The skill helps an agent interpret your references; adding an image does not automatically train an AI model. Sharing notes or images with an agent is your choice and follows that provider’s data policies.

Keep Design Eye running

Closing the library leaves the app in the Mac menu bar or Windows system tray. Fully quitting stops capture and sync. You can change your capture shortcut in Settings and replay the walkthrough from Help.
